The Story of Nagoya Horizon
Inspired by a transformative journey to Nagoya, Tracy Frost sought to capture the city's unique spirit, where the relentless march of industry meets the serene beauty of ancient traditions. The upper expanse of "Nagoya Horizon" is a textured tapestry of grays, each layer telling a story of the city's resilience and innovation. The towering factories and modern architecture are rendered with a sense of both awe and reverence, as if they are pieces of a grand puzzle, each essential to the whole.
The horizontal copper band, a striking contrast to the muted tones above, represents the cultural heart of Nagoya. It is a celebration of the city's fiery sunsets over the port, the gleaming ancient shrines like Atsuta, and the innovative spirit of its people. This band serves as a visual metaphor for the warmth and vitality that lie beneath the city's industrial facade, a reminder that progress and tradition can coexist in beautiful harmony.
Below the copper band, abstracted rooftops rise like hopeful peaks, symbolising the enduring communities and the countless stories of everyday life. These rooftops are not just structures but embodiments of the city's soul, each one a testament to the resilience and unity of its people. They reach towards the sky, suggesting a constant striving for renewal and a brighter future.
"Nagoya Horizon" is a captivating mixed media artwork that encapsulates the essence of Nagoya, Japan—a city where industrial grit and timeless beauty coexist in harmony. The heavily textured upper section, rendered in layers of gray, evokes the mosaic of Nagoya's urban skyline, with its towering factories and modern architecture pieced together like resilient puzzle blocks under a brooding sky. A horizontal copper band, one-third up, symbolises the warm glow of Nagoya's cultural heart, while abstracted rooftops below represent the enduring communities and hidden stories of everyday life, rising towards unity and renewal.
