The Story of Rain on Recovered Roads: Taree
This work rises from the depths of Taree’s flood, where the streets bore the weight of deluge and despair. The composition is dominated with a dark, muddy palette mirroring a gritty, muddy landscape. Its rugged surface suggests the chaos of drenched debris. Its high gloss finish evokes the wetness that clung to tireless rescue efforts, and its coppery paths, weaving through the dark expanse, are symbols of resilience as roads were rediscovered under the mud. At a certain angle, raindrops whisper across the composition, a haunting echo of the rains that continued to fall as people swept and cleared. This piece is both a lament and a love letter to Taree, its glints of copper speaking of hope for the future.
Note: this piece has been designed in such a way that welcomes human touch - it has been coated to withstand interaction, so the viewer is invited to experience this artwork visually and physically.
"Rain on Recovered Roads: Taree" is a poignant mixed media artwork that captures the resilience and determination of a community in the aftermath of the devastating May 2025 floods. The artwork features perpendicular metallic lines, symbolizing the destruction and debris piled along the roads, creating a stark visual narrative of recovery and renewal.
This piece serves as a reminder that despite the rubble that accumulates, the world and its people forge ahead, embodying a spirit of unyielding hope and perseverance.
