The Story of Obelisk VI: After

This work, measuring 76cm x 101cm on wooden board, is a mixed media exploration born from a vivid, almost tangible vision that demanded to be materialised. Using construction cements layered with multiple glazes, I sought to capture the pulsating rhythm of luminous, golden-brown cubes rising and falling in an otherworldly grid, in a scene that felt more real to me than waking life.

The textured, almost architectural surface evokes a threshold between what we call ‘life’ and whatever lies beyond: “After”. The glossy, molten-like glazes reflect light in shifting ways, suggesting movement, energy and impermanence, while the dark and gold encrusted bases ground the forms in raw materiality. These cubes pulse as if breathing, alive in a realm that questions the boundaries of existence.

At its core this piece interrogates whether this reality is the primary one or merely a simulation, an intricate construct that we inhabit temporarily. The vision arrived unbidden, insistent, compelling me to translate its intensity into physical form. I invite viewers to confront their own doubts: Is this life, or is this a glimpse of an echo of the afterlife?
