In The Lighthouse, part of my ongoing Abundance series, I explore the enduring power of guidance and stability within families. This work, measuring 76cm x 101cm on wooden panel, embodies the metaphor of a lighthouse – a steadfast beacon that illuminates the path through life’s turbulent waters, steering us clear of the metaphorical rocks that threaten to disrupt our course.

Crafted with construction cements and acrylic glazes, The Lighthouse embraces a raw, tactile physicality. The rough textured surface mirrors the rugged challenges of existence, while the high-gloss sheen reflects the radiant hope and clarity that a guiding light provides. The interplay of these materials – gritty yet luminous – captures the duality of resilience and aspiration central to the human experience.

Through this piece, I invite viewers to reflect on the sources of guidance in their own lives – be it family, community or a personal conviction – and to consider the strength found in connection and purpose. The Lighthouse is both a celebration of stability and a call to seek out the light that keeps us anchored, no matter the storm.
